The Go Green Site Your Ultimate Source for Green Living Increased awareness over the negative effects of global warming has led people to explore options for green living, or living a sustainable lifestyle that consumes as few of the earth’s precious resources as possible. There are many simple things people can do to help save the earth, such as refusing plastic bags and bringing your own reusable bags to the supermarket and switching to energy-efficient appliances that reduce our use of electricity. But if you are serious about becoming more earth-friendly, visit the Go Green Information Center site, which gathers together online resources on how to shift to an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. On the site you’ll find a link to a Worldwatch Institute article on practical everyday measures people can adopt to go green and save money. These include taking shorter showers, which not only conserves water but also lower your water and heating bills; walking or biking instead of taking your car in order to reduce gasoline and parking costs while strengthening your cardiovascular health; buying second-hand products online instead of new ones; keeping your gadgets - such as cellphones and mp3 players - for as long as possible instead of upgrading to new ones constantly; and making your own cleaning products using common household chemicals such as baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice rather than buying manufactured ones from the supermarket. There is also a link to the Go Green blog, voted one of the 100 best blogs in 2009 by The Times Online. The blog features guides on every aspect of green living you can think of, from job searches to investing and even dating. To illustrate how a romantic date can also be earth-friendly, a blog post recommends picking a restaurant for your date that serves locally-grown ingredients, giving each other homemade gifts, and adopting romantic touches such as candlelit dinners to save electricity and dual showers to save on water. You can also sign up for the Go Green! Newsletter from the US Environmental Protection Agency to learn about the latest tips on how to go green and save money at the same time. Articles in the November 2009 newsletter include features on how to shop for a fuel-efficient car, e-cycling your old computers, how to heat your house in an environmentally-friendly fashion and the dangers of lead exposure. The newsletters also feature readers’ opinions on vital environmental questions, which are featured on the EPA’s blog. You can also access past newsletters from the site’s archive. If you want more comprehensive resources, then you can visit the Go-Green site, where you can download the 2009 Climate Report from the US Global Change Research Program, as well as overviews on the state of global warming, sustainable development, water resources, pollution and land use.
